Forum #1 How is
technology portrayed in Bendito Machine III?
What is
this film suggesting are the ecological and social implications of an obsession
or fixation on technology? Do the film’s characters have any choice in relation
to their technologies? What are the characteristics of various technologies as
portrayed in this film?
I am overwhelmed by all the different ideas expressed in the
forum. But the link added by Michael
Costelo: http://www.sbs.com.au/dateline/story/related/aid/610/id/601347/n/E-Waste-Hell.
It really made me think of how real is the ecological implication of
technology! At least in the film
is inoffensive trash but in real life is not like that! It is affecting lots of people. I am wondering if the creators of
technology are now considering the possibility of recycling their
products. I notice stores where
they collect cell phones, and batteries.
From this point of view technology is not helping our environment. There must be a way to go green!
I do not think the characters in the film had any choice in
relation to their technology. It
was just one character always worried about having something new, or getting
something new for his people. Why
just one? Why the other characters
did not argue about it? It looked
like a very submissive culture.
The characteristics of the various technologies presented in
the film could be address from inoffensive, friendly to very evil! The first
one just had some lights (the bull) just as decoration. Then came the radio,
followed by the TV with different programs, different choices. People seemed to like them. But then, at the end the TV was
evil. People were so obsessive
with technology that they could not see it was destroying them!
